CASA HAUS ALTADENA
/ 2509
A New Spanish Colonial Revival Home for LA Living
Casa Haus Altadena is a prototype rebuild for Los Angeles, reimagining the Spanish Colonial Revival style through the lens of climate resilience and Passive House performance. Built on an existing foundation, the project honors memory while introducing new construction strategies that respond to wildfire, drought, and energy demands.
The envelope combines fire-resistant Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) walls with timber and mineral wool roofing, achieving low U-values (0.137–0.214 W/m²K) and airtightness across roof, wall, and floor. Passive House–certified windows and continuous insulation ensure comfort and efficiency, while airtight layers of lime plaster, OSB, and concrete safeguard durability.
Native, fire-resistant landscaping creates a poetic and protective garden, framing outdoor terraces, balconies, and a potential ADU. Casa Haus Altadena is not just a single dwelling but a replicable prototype—one that rebuilds homes and communities with cultural continuity, environmental responsibility, and architectural beauty.
