Cheng-Hsin Chan is a Taiwanese architect and design researcher based in London, who carefully crafts spaces and experiences that evoke delight and wonder, reflecting a deep sensitivity to place, daily rituals, and the lives lived within. His work explores the intimate connections between climate, skin, and the built environment, weaving together domesticity, adaptation, and memory to create designs that profoundly resonate with ecological balance and everyday human experiences.
Driven by a multidisciplinary ethos, Cheng’s expertise spans from digital design consultancy to a comprehensive architectural practice capable of uniting cultural narratives, technical precision, and environmental insight into cohesive, visionary outcomes. His creative explorations articulate how spaces adapt, reflect, and respond to evolving cultural and climatic contexts, emphasizing the nuanced textures of daily life.
Cheng’s rigorous practice integrates sophisticated environmental analytics with evocative visual storytelling. His work has been exhibited internationally, notably at the Venice Architecture Biennale, MIT Center for Art, Lithuania National Gallery of Art, and Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Balancing poetic expression with data-driven clarity, Cheng’s designs deliver thoughtful and resilient solutions to contemporary spatial and environmental challenges.
Cheng holds an SMArchS in Architecture and Urbanism (with MIT graduate Fellowship) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Business Analytics Certificate from MIT Sloan School of Management, and a BArch, awarded first prize for thesis design, from Tunghai University (THU). Currently, Cheng is a senior environmental design researcher at AtkinsRéalis Building Design Research & Innovation Lab, developing bespoke analytical tools and contributing to multi-billion-pound planning projects.
