On Discomfort and Slowness
How do we know a place?Horsepower refers to the power an engine produces. It's calculated through the powerneeded to move 550 pounds one foot in one second or by the power needed to move 33,000 pounds one foot in one minute. The rate gauges the power it takes to do the work." The conception of the power a horse can provide also serves as a metaphor for the urbanization historyof human mechanizing nature and ways to perceive the built environment. The Atlas project is about urban transportation and how it formed the city and further reformed people's perceptions through time.
